Game 59: Yankees (29-29) vs. A's (37-22)

NEW YORK -- The Yankees will try to avoid being swept by the Oakland A's by sending ace Masahiro Tanaka to the mound. Here is the lineup that will try to support Tanaka.

Brett Gardner, LF

Derek Jeter, SS

Jacoby Ellsbury, CF

Mark Teixeira, 1B

Carlos Beltran, DH

Yangervis Solarte, 3B

Brian McCann, C

Alfonso Soriano, RF

Brian Roberts, 2B

Notes: With lefty Drew Pomeranz on the mound, McCann is batting seventh in the lineup for the first time. The move was made possible by the return of Beltran.

Girardi said that bating McCann seventh is just the plan right now against lefties.

"I think his at-bats were much better in the month of May than they were in April," Girardi said. "He walked more. It is just that we are facing a lefty today. It is not where I plan to hit him against right-handers."

In April, McCann's OPS was .620. In May, it was .720. His career OPS is .816.

Overall, McCann is hitting .229 with seven homers and 24 RBIs.
