Rangers or Rays? Captain won't choose

Derek Jeter said he didn’t want to give the Twins any hope in the ALDS by allowing them to win Game 3, and he helped the Yankees put Minnesota away with a 2-for-4 night.

Jeter, who struggled mightily in the regular season with a career-low .270 batting average, hit .286 in the ALDS.

Hitting coach Kevin Long said Jeter has looked good at the plate in the postseason, carrying over the adjustments that he and Long implemented in the final month of the regular season, in which Jeter hit .287.

Jeter has hit safely in 18 of his last 19 playoff games. He also swiped his first base in five years when he swiped second in the fourth.

Predictably, the Yankees captain said he had no preference (publicly, at least) about who the Yankees face in the ALCS. The Rangers lead the Rays, 2-1, with Game 4 scheduled for Sunday afternoon.

“You don’t ever wish for a certain opponent because you just might get ‘em,” Jeter said.
