Girardi: No change at DH vs. Lee
By Wallace Matthews
Marcus Thames, the Yankees' usual DH against left-handed pitching, has a career .194 average vs. Cliff Lee, tonight's Rangers starter, with more than twice as many K's (15) as hits (7) in 36 at-bats. Three of those 7 hits, however, have been home runs, which may have factored into Joe Girardi's decision to keep him in the lineup tonight rather than opting for Lance Berkman, who has hit .375 vs. Lee in a much smaller smaple (3-for-8).
"Marcus is our DH,'' Girardi said. "(Lee) has got good stuff, but when he’s made a mistake, Marcus has got him. He’s that type of guy. Marcus has been our DH against lefties the whole time and he’s done a good job. I don’t see any reason why we should change.''
