Apparently there was no butter on that popcorn
By Wallace Matthews
We already knew Alex Rodriguez was lighter this spring. Now, we know how much lighter. According to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney, Rodriguez dropped 10 pounds this off-season, from 233 to 223, and lowered his bodyfat from 12% to 9 %. A-Rod's weight loss was first mentioned in a quote from Yankees hitting coach Kevin Long in an ESPNNewYork.com story that ran Feb. 9, although Long did not know exactly how much weight Rodriguez had lost.
Today, manager Joe Girardi said, "I'm not so sure it was quite that much. sometimes guys just feel they want to be a little bit lighter. It might add to their game. They might bounce back a little quicker not carrying as much mass. This is just the way that he showed up. He came in in very good shape. I'm not going to complain about that.''
