Whelan called up, Dickerson sent down
The New York Yankees have summoned right-hander Kevin Whelan from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, adding another fresh arm to their depleted bullpen.
In a corresponding roster move, outfielder Chris Dickerson has been sent down to Triple-A.
The 27-year-old Whelan, who was called up before Friday night’s game against the Cleveland Indians at Yankee Stadium, was 1-1 with a 1.67 ERA and 18 saves for the Yankees’ International League affiliate.
He was acquired by the Yankees in 2006 as part of the blockbuster trade which sent slugger Gary Sheffield to the Detroit Tigers.
