Even-Keeled Thames excited to start

By Andrew Marchand

Joe Girardi is going with Marcus Thames in left field against Jon Lester Tuesday night. Thames was happy about it, but it was hard to tell how happy, because he seemed about as deadpan as comedian Steven Wright.

"I'm the same if I'm playing or if I'm not," Thames said. "I'm just excited to get out and hopefully, we can get this first win out of the way."

Girardi said that his expectation is for Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher to play every day, and that Brett Gardner would be the one who platoons more. However, he did say there will be some days when he could shift Gardner to center.
