Ray Bartoszek invests in Yankees

Ray Bartoszek, a former oil trader who previously tried to buy a stake of the New York Mets earlier this year, has invested in the Yankees, a source familiar with the deal confirmed to ESPNNewYork.com.

The source said that Bartoszek bought a piece of a limited partnership, which means someone who is already a limited partnership sold a piece of that partnership that Bartoszek.  The specific details of the purchase or the value could not be divulged, but the source said that there are about 30 limited partners with the Yankees.

This purchase will not affect the team in its day-to-day dealings, the source said.

The deal was approved by major league baseball on Friday and the process with Bartoszek started several months ago, the source said. Bartoszek, 46, made his name in the business world through his old trading work with Glencore International.

Bartoszek told the New York Times in June that he had been told he finished second in the Mets' search to find a new minority owner. He also told the New York Times that his proposed deal called for 10 percent ownership of the Mets television network, SNY, and included a way for him to become a majority owner of the team.

David Einhorn instead was the partner the Mets chose to do business with and that deal recently fizzled.
