Danks, Kuroda Update: Don't expect it
By Andrew Marchand
We will not rule out that the Yankees will make a trade for John Danks, but team officials don't know exactly where they would put him.
The feeling is that the Yankees have their five starters with CC Sabathia, Ivan Nova, Phil Hughes, Freddy Garcia and A.J. Burnett. Hector Noesi will be the swing starter. (Bartolo Colon seems increasingly unlikely to return.)
One of the reasons that the Yankees will be hesitant to make a trade for Danks is because the CBA has changed how compensation works if Danks were to leave as a free agent at the end of next season. Under the formula, the Yankees would get less than the likely first round pick Danks would command. This makes Danks less appealing as one-year option.
As for Kuroda, there has been a slight shift in thinking that he may consider other places besides Los Angeles or Japan, but there is no indication yet that New York would be one of them. Kuroda is a player the Yankees were interested in last winter and they tried to trade for him at July's deadline.
Again, the Yankees do not seem willing to add a guaranteed contract for pretty big money when they feel their rotation is set.
So if these stays the same, Question of the mid-Day: How do you feel about your rotation?
