Clock ticking on Donnie Baseball

Don Mattingly pulled his highest Hall of Fame vote total, 102, since he got 145 votes in 2001, his first year of eligibility. But needing to be named on 75 percent of the ballots (430 of 573 cast this year) and with only three more years of eligibility remaining, Mattingly's chances of making it in seem extremely remote. Donnie Baseball did, however, out-poll Dale Murphy, Rafael Palmeiro, Juan Gonzalez and his former teammate, Bernie Williams, who got 72 votes in his first year on the ballot.
