RBI single ends Grandy's day

Joe Girardi said yesterday that he would start his regular outfielders today but pull them after one at-bat, and true to his word, the manager yanked Curtis Granderson for the top of the second and replaced him with Melky Mesa. Granderson's one at-bat was a productive one, an RBI single that scored Derek Jeter, who reached on a two-base throwing error by the third baseman that should have been a routine groundout that gave the Yankees a 1-0 first-inning lead over the U of SF.
