3-1/2 Stars: The Clearwater edition
While most of the Yankees' regulars stayed home in Tampa and played against the Twins on Friday afternoon, another Yankees squad traveled to Clearwater and beat the Phillies 5-3.
The second of two wins on the day ups the Yankees' Grapefruit League record to 12-9-1.
Here are your stars of this game:
* Hiroki Kuroda, who started and got the win, pitching 5 2/3 innings, and giving up one run on six hits. Kuroda threw 89 pitches, 59 for strikes, and had three strikeouts and one walk. He is now 2-1 this spring with a 3.07 ERA in four starts.
* Robinson Cano, who went 3-for-4, with two doubles and a single. Cano had a pair of RBIs and a run scored, and is now batting .243 this spring.
* Doug Bernier, who followed up a strong game last night in Fort Myers with two more hits and an RBI on Friday against the Phillies. The 31-year-old journeyman shortstop continued his fine spring -- he is now batting .385.
And a half-star goes to David Phelps, who relieved Kuroda and finished up the game. Phelps did give up two runs in his 3 1/3 innings, but he just got back to camp after his wife had a baby -- he had a lot on his mind!
