Branyan released & re-signed

By Andrew Marchand

The Yankees released Russell Branyan from his minor league contract. After he became a free agent, the Yankees re-signed Branyan to a new minor league contract.

It probably has something to do with the language or the money in the first contract. Perhaps -- I'm guessing here -- Branyan either had to be on the team or released by a certain date.

Craig Tatum -- the catcher they acquired off waivers -- was outrighted to the Triple-A Empire State Yankees. Tatum is now Triple-A insurance if Austin Romine's back doesn't get better.
