Thumb epidemic in Boston hits Beckett
By Andrew Marchand
While the Yankees may not be able to walk down stairs or jump on trampolines, the Red Sox have their thumbs all out of joint. First, it was closer Andrew Bailey. Now, it is Josh Beckett.
Beckett's thumb injury is the second one to hit the Red Sox pitching staff in the past two days. Closer Andrew Bailey might miss the start of the regular season with a thumb injury of his own.
According to Bobby Valentine, the injury is not that serious and Beckett could make his first start of the season Saturday in Detroit. Beckett apparently has had the injury for a few weeks, but is just now flying to San Antonio to get it checked out further.
