More Nunez in outfield? Sounds like it

Eduardo Nunez will start in left field for the second straight game Tuesday night against the Orioles, and manager Joe Girardi said we may see more of this in the future.

"I’ve said all along I expected Nunez to play some outfield for us," Girardi said before Tuesday's game. "Before [Brett] Gardner got hurt our fourth outfielder was kind of a combination of [Raul] Ibanez and [Andruw] Jones in a sense. Will I go back to that? Um, maybe. Will I use Nunez out there? Maybe. I need Nunez to spell our shortstop and second baseman sometimes, too.

Nunez made his first-ever start in left field on Monday night, and caught all five balls that came his way, despite the fact that he didn't exactly look graceful out there.

"He did a good job," said Girardi. "He had one easy ball out of the five or six that he had. He enjoyed it, and we enjoyed watching him, and he’s gonna get some time [out there]."

Nunez, 24, committed 20 errors last season as a utility infielder, and a pair of errors early this season in the infield as well. But Girardi likes to get his bat in the lineup. So far this season, Nunez is hitting .313 in 32 at-bats.
