Mariano down: Clubhouse reaction

As you can imagine, the Yankees' clubhouse was downcast after the news broke that Mariano Rivera had suffered a torn ACL in his right knee and was likely lost for the season. Here is a collection of reaction from some of Mo's teammates:

DEREK JETER: "Mo's a vital part of this team on the field, off the field. He's going to be missed. There's no other way to put it. You don't replace him. Someone else can do his job, but you can't really replace him. I don't think you try to fill his job, you just try to do your own.''

ALEX RODRIGUEZ: “It’s hard to even talk about it tonight. Mo means so much to all of us on a personal level. Obviously there’s a significance on the field, on the mound with his presence. The bottom line is we’re the New York Yankees. Nobody is going to feel sorry for us. We have a very capable roster in here. Guys have to step up, see it as an opportunity.”

JOE GIRARDI: "This is bad, no question about it. You lose a Hall of Famer. That changes it a lot. The depth of our bullpen just got a little bit shorter because of the injury. But good teams find a way to overcome things. We got to find a way to get through it. It's not what you want, but it's not season over.''

CC SABATHIA: "It’s crazy. It’s tough, but we’ll do whatever we can to step up and try to fill the void of the best closer to ever play baseball. It’s going to be real tough, but we have to keep going.”

MARK TEIXEIRA: "I’ve always argued he’s the best pitcher of all time -- not just the best relief pitcher, but the best pitcher. If he is going to be out for a long time, it’s going to hurt. But we have guys who can step up, hopefully, and take his place.''

DAVID ROBERTSON: "I don’t know if I’m prepared to (replace Rivera) or not. I’m going to go out there and give it everything I’ve got, and hope for the best. I’m not Mariano Rivera, I’m not going to be able to go out there and get outs real quickly. I’m a different style of pitcher. I’ve never done it, so all I can do is say I’m going to try real hard.”
