Girardi shuffles lineup
By Wallace Matthews
A day after trying, to mixed reviews, a lineup that had Mark Teixeira in the cleanup spot and Robinson Cano batting fifth -- a decision that arguably cost the Yankees at least couple of runs when Tex twice rapped into double plays with runners at first and third and popped out with the bases loaded in the ninth -- Joe Girardi has returned Cano to the four slot and dropped Teixeira to sixth, below Nick Swisher in the order that will face Daisuke Matsuzaka.
"I love the way Swish is swinging the bat," Girardi said. "It just keeps some space between our left-handers with the two switch-hitters between them."
But Girardi also acknowledged that he is still not quite sure what to expect out of Teixeira, who homered in his first game back on Monday night but was 0-for-6 on Tuesday.
"We were fairly consistent when guys are here for a period of time, but when guys aren'’t and they're coming into the lineup, you have to see where people are at," Girardi said. "Sometimes you have to shuffle things around, but it’'s nice to be getting all our pieces back where we have our switch hitters and we can break up the lefties."
Interestingly, Teixeira is the leading hitter among Yankee regulars against Daisuke.
