Who is in center?

By Andrew Marchand

TAMPA, Fla. -- Joe Girardi still doesn't know.

What is clear the Yankees are still thinking about moving Brett Gardner to center and Curtis Granderson to left.

The Yankees know the defensive metrics support such a move, but they are concerned about the human element.

Girardi wonders how Granderson will adjust to left and worries about what impact it will have on him him at the plate. This seems to be the biggest impediment to such a move.

What I don't understand is why they haven't decided if they want to try it out or not? Girardi claimed they are still talking it over and they have not brought up the idea to Granderson.

On Monday, Granderson did tell reporters that he would be OK with such a move, but he is one of the more agreeable people on the planet so this is not much of a surprise. Still, it is sort of weird they would keep him in the dark on an issue they refuse to close to door on.

By the start of games, the Yankees will have to make a decision. Ultimately, I think they will take a look at how Granderson does in left with Gardner in center. With Granderson a free agent at the end of the year, it makes sense in the short-term and the long-term.

QUESTION: Would you put Granderson in left and Gardner in center?
