Top prospect arrested on DUI charge

By Andrew Marchand

Mason Williams, one of the Yankees' top outfield prospects, was arrested early Thursday and charged with driving his Range Rover under the influence. The Tampa Times filed this report:

Mason Williams, 21, was headed west on Kennedy Boulevard when an officer saw him weaving in and out of a lane going about 50 mph in a 40 mph zone.

The officer conducted a traffic stop. Williams displayed "clues of impairment" and was arrested, Tampa police said. Williams submitted to a breath test, where his blood alcohol level measured about .06, below the level at which the law presumes a driver to be impaired.

Williams has a .771 OPS in 18 games for Tampa in A-ball. He has yet to hit a home run. He is considered the Yankees' best outfield prospect, along with Tyler Austin and Slade Heathcott. Of the three, Williams is considered the furthest away from the majors. Williams' father, Derwin, played receiver for the New England Patriots from 1985-87.

During Michael Pineda's shoulder rehab in 2012, he was charged with a DUI in Tampa, as well.
