Game 40: Yankees (25-14) vs. Mariners (18-21)

By Andrew Marchand

The Yankees have brought up David Adams to play third and have designated Chris Nelson for assignment. Adams, who turns 26 today, is famous in Yankee lore because his bum ankle held up the Cliff Lee trade from the Seattle Mariners in 2010. The Yankees love their symmetry so they have brought up Adams to face the Mariners for his debut.

Here is the rest of the lineup:

Brett Gardner, CF
Robinson Cano, 2B
Vernon Wells, DH
Curtis Granderson, LF
Lyle Overbay, 1B
David Adams, 3B
Ichiro Suzuki, RF
Chris Stewart, C
Alberto Gonzalez, SS
