Yankees sign first pick

By Andrew Marchand

The Yankees have signed their first pick, Eric Jagielo, according to Baseball America. The Yankees confirmed the signing Friday afternoon. Baseball Ameria said the deal was for $1,839,400.

The Yankees like Jagielo because he fits their stadium. He is a 6-foot-3, 215-pound, left-handed hitting third baseman. Since he is a college kid, he might be closer to the majors than Dante Bichette Jr., who was the Yankees' first pick (No. 51) in 2011. Bichette, also a third baseman, is hitting .212 with four homers and 35 RBIs in 59 games at Single-A Charleston.

Bichette is 20, while Jagielo is 21.
