A-Rod: I'm eager to return

By Andrew Marchand

BALTIMORE -- Alex Rodriguez said Saturday that his relationship with the Yankees is fine and he is eager to return. From the AP story:

"Alex Rodriguez says he feels great and his relationship with the New York Yankees is fine.

Rodriguez didn't indicate when he will start a minor league injury rehabilitation assignment or rejoin the big league team, saying Saturday he "can't wait to get back."

"So far, no issues," Rodriguez said. "I'm just working really hard. I'm having fun. It's exciting to be back on the field."

RUNNING THE BASES: That is Derek Jeter's next step, according to Joe Girardi. After that, Jeter could get into a rehab game.

When will all this happen? The manager wouldn't say. When Jeter and A-Rod get into games, then they will probably need the full 20 days of rehab games, according to Girardi.

GRANDY MAN CAN'T: Curtis Granderson is still not swinging a bat as he tries to strengthen his injured hand. This means there is no telling when he will be back.

ALL-STAR BRETT?: Girardi thinks Brett Gardner is an All-Star. Gardner entered Saturday night's game with a .288 average, seven homers and 29 RBIs. His average is third-best among AL center fielders, trailing Adam Jones and Jacoby Ellsbury. Among all outfielders, his average is sixth, while his OPS (.798) is eighth.

He has also played a Gold Glove-caliber center field.
