ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Before tonight's game, the Tampa Bay Rays presented Mariano Rivera with a huge sand sculpture of his head amidst the New York skyline with the legend "ENTER SANDMAN 42," crafted by a local sculptor.
Well, not exactly presented, because the huge sculpture is not movable, but they did bring Mo down to the Tropicana Field rotunda area to pose for photos in front of it. He was also asked to sign it, a task he performed with great delicacy.
“I was afraid it was going to make it all fall down,” Mo said.
The Rays also presented him with a check for $3,150, representing a $50 donation for each of his 63 saves against them, to the Mariano Rivera Foundation.
