What's good about Tanaka
By Wallace Matthews
If you haven't caught Tanaka Fever already, this piece by Steve Wulf and Jason Coskrey should whet your appetite for the looming bidding war for the Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka -- assuming his team, the Rakuten Golden Eagles, allows him to be posted to play in the United States.
Already, the Yankees have pretty much put all their pitching eggs in the Tanaka basket -- according to sources, they have no interest in any of the three high-ticket MLB free agent pitchers -- Matt Garza, Ubaldo Jiminez and Ervin Santana -- still on the board, and aside from Brett Gardner, don't have a whole lot of tradeable pieces either on the roster or in the farm system.
So, as Andrew Marchand wrote yesterday, it appears to be Tanaka or bust. After reading today's story, you'll understand why.
