Teixeira: Nobody wins with A-Rod ban
By Ian Begley
Mark Teixeira says there are no winners in the A-Rod-Biogenesis saga.
"It's unfortunate for baseball, for Alex [and] for the Yankees. Nobody wins," the first baseman said on Monday.
When Teixeira gets to spring training in mid-February, Rodriguez may or may not be there.
Rodriguez reportedly intends to attend spring training even though he's been banned for the 2014 season by MLB for what baseball calls multiple violations of the Joint Drug Agreement.
Rodriguez has sued MLB and its players' union to reverse the ban. Assuming he doesn't get it reversed in time to join the Yankees (unlikely), the team will have to find a new third baseman for 2014. It will most likely be Eduardo Nunez or Kelly Johnson.
As for Teixeira, he said his wrist injury has healed nicely and he expects to be ready for spring training. He has started swinging and hitting off a tee in recent days. Teixeira was limited to just 15 games last season after undergoing surgery on July 1 to repair a recurring right wrist injury.
