McCann, Ellsbury & Beltran under the radar

By Andrew Marchand

TAMPA, Fla. -- Reporters peppered Joe Girardi with Derek Jeter question after Derek Jeter question on the day that nearly $300 million of new Yankees put on their spring training uniforms for the first time.

So what about Brian McCann, Jacoby Ellsbury and Carlos Beltran?

"You know as you were going through your question I was going, that’s probably good for them, in a sense, that they are not going to be the focal point," Girardi said when we finally asked him about McCann, Ellsbury and Beltran.

McCann, Ellsbury and Beltran went through their workouts virtually unnoticed Thursday. Eventually, that will probably change, but between Jeter and Masahiro Tanaka, the three free-agent signings have fallen under the radar.

ATTENDANCE: Alfonso Soriano was the only Yankee who did not participate in the first team workout. He has the flu.

THE PLAY: "Bronx Bombers" -- the Broadway play -- which opened Feb. 6, is closing March 2.
