Early notes: The 'B' team

By Wallace Matthews

TAMPA, Fla. -- Two days ago, the Boston Red Sox sent over a pseudo-squad, minus David Ortiz, Dustin Pedroia and Mike Napoli, to face the Yankees. So tonight, of course, the Yankees are returning the favor for the game at Fort Myers, first pitch at 7:05 p.m. ET

No Derek Jeter, Brett Gardner, Brian McCann, Carlos Beltran or Jacoby Ellsbury, who is still out with a calf issue.

Here's who they are sending:

Ichiro Suzuki CF
Brendan Ryan SS
Eduardo Nunez 3B
Mark Teixeira 1B
Francisco Cervelli C
Scott Sizemore 2B
Yangervis Solarte LF
Zoilo Almonte RF
Zelous Wheeler DH

David Phelps RHP

Ryan (lower back soreness) is making his first start since March 4. ... Sizemore, who Girardi said was suffering from a right quad issue, is obviously well enough to make the 2-hour trip down to Fort Myers. ... Phelps is making his fifth spring training start, and at this point, starters customarily go six innings or 85-90 pitches. He will be followed by Matt Daley, Fred Lewis and Yoshinori Tateyama. ... Fans have a plethora of broadcast choices for tonight's game -- YES, ESPN and WFAN radio -- as well as my Twitter feed, @ESPNNYYankees, for in-game updates and commentary.
