"I'm really honored and happy to be able to receive such an award," Tanaka said through his translator. "But basically, the bottom line is that I'm not pitching or playing to get that award, so I can't really be satisfied because of this."
Tanaka's next start is Thursday afternoon against the Oakland A's at Yankee Stadium. Overall, he is 8-1 with a 2.06 ERA. He seems like he will definitely make the All-Star team and could very well start the game.
On May 20, he lost against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. It was the first time he had lost in the regular season since August 2012.
Tex's message: As outlined here, Mark Teixeira is in the Yankees' lineup after missing five of the past seven games because of his inflamed right wrist. Teixeira said he would swing before the game to see if he was good to go.
Beltran closing in: Joe Girardi said it is "possible" Carlos Beltran (bone spurs in right elbow) could be activated in Kansas City on Friday.
In Florida on Tuesday, Beltran took four at-bats in an extended spring game, collecting a couple of hits, according to Girardi.
Sizemore had four hits in 13 at-bats (.308) his first time up this season. He was hitting .265 in 147 Triple-A at-bats.
To make room for Solarte, Zoilo Almonte was returned to Triple-A Scranton.
LeBlanc on his way: The Yankees picked up lefty reliever Wade LeBlanc off waivers from the Angels.
He is expected to join the team on Wednesday, Brian Cashman said. That could be the end for Alfredo Aceves' run in the pen, but no corresponding move has been announced yet.
LeBlanc, 29, made one relief appearance with the Angels this year and allowed four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings against the A's. In nine starts at Triple-A Salt Lake, he was 5-1 with a 3.69 ERA.
He has been around, having compiled 97 career major league appearances by zigzagging across the country from San Diego to Miami to Houston to Los Angeles.
Pineda to 60-day:Michael Pineda (upper back strain) was moved to the 60-day DL. Girardi said the move was made to open a space on the 40-man roster and Pineda has not experienced any further setbacks. Still, Pineda won't be back until July around the All-Star break, at the earliest.
Cervy feeling good:Francisco Cervelli (hamstring) caught another game in Tampa. He is eligible to return in the middle of the month. The Yankees will have a decision to make in regard to who should be the backup to Brian McCann -- Cervelli or John Ryan Murphy. While Murphy has played well, he has minor league options and Cervelli does not.
Minor league options give the Yankees the ability to send Ryan down without sending him through waivers. Cervelli could be plucked by any team if the Yankees tried to move him to Scranton.
Tarp: During the A's batting practice, the tarp was put on the infield. There is a 60 percent chance of rain until 11 p.m.
