Game 123: Yankees vs. Mariners 4:03 p.m.: Rivera snags a comebacker from Lopez and tosses to Teixeira to end the game. Yankees 9, Mariners 5. Bullpen looks strong. Can't say the same for Vazquez.
4:02 p.m.: Branyan grounds into a fielder's choice. Ichiro scores from third. Yankees 9, Mariners 5
3:53 p.m.: The Yanks are up five runs, but Girardi decides to go back to Rivera who hasn't pitched since Aug. 18.
3:51 p.m.: Pena reaches on a fielder's choice. Kearns scores from third. Yankees 9, Mariners 4
3:49 p.m.: Kotchman's error on that Granderson grounder allows Posada to score. That error by Kotchman snapped a 274-game errorless streak at first. That was the longest errorless streak at first base. His last error came on June 20, 2008 when Kotchman was a Brave. Yankees 8, Mariners 4
3:41 p.m. RHP Brian Sweeney in for Seattle in the bottom of the eighth. Yankees 7, Mariners 4
3:40 p.m.: Rivera induces a pop-out to first from Saunders to end the eighth. Yankees 7, Mariners 4
3:33 p.m.: Mariano Rivera warming in the Yankees bullpen. He last pitched on August 18 against Detroit. Girardi will look for Rivera to get four outs after Robertson couldn't get the job done.
3:24 p.m.: David Robertson is on the mound in the eighth. Ramiro Pena will replace Nunez at third and Brett Gardner takes over for Kearns in left. Yankees 7, Mariners 4
3:21 p.m.: Teixeira lines a sac-fly to right to score Nunez. Yankees 7, Mariners 4
3:17 p.m.: Jeter lines a 3-1 pitch to center field, driving in Granderson. Yankees 6, Mariners 4
3:13 p.m.: Jamey Wright on for Valdez.
3:11 p.m.: Nunez comes through with a single to right - his first hit in the big leagues - which drives in Kearns. Yankees 5, Mariners 4
3:07 p.m.: With Kearns running on a 3-2 pitch, Granderson lines a single to right. First and third for Eduardo Nunez. Big spot for the kid in his first start in the big leagues.
3:04 p.m.: Austin Kearns singles with one out in the seventh, extending his hitting streak to ten games.
2:58 p.m.: Yankee bullpen has picked up Vazquez thus far. Mariners have just one hit off of the pen.
2:56 p.m.: Logan on for Gaudin to start the seventh. Yankees 4, Mariners 4
2:46 p.m.: Gaudin strikes out Saunders and Wilson to end the top of the sixth. The righty has done an excellent job keeping the Mariners at bay. Swisher, Teixeira, Cano due up in the bottom of the inning. Yankees 4, Mariners 4
2:40 p.m.: Lefty Boone Logan warming in the Yankees pen.
2:35 p.m.: Jason Vargas has retired 11 straight hitters since allowing a first-inning homer to Posada.
2:16 p.m.: Gaudin gets out of trouble by inducing a 6-4-3 doube play to end the top of the fourth. Yankees 4, Mariners 4
2:10 p.m.: Vazquez pulled after allowing an infield single to Josh Wilson, though from up here it seemed that Cano should have been charged with an error on the play. Either way, Vazquez is done after just 3-plus innings. He allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out two. This start did nothing to inspire confidence in Vazquez as a competent cog in the Yankees playoff rotation. Yankees 4, Mariners 4
2:06 p.m.: Yanks kept Mariners right fielder Ichiro Suzuki busy in the bottom of the third as all three hitters flew out to right field. Yankees 4, Mariners 4
2:00 p.m.: Chad Gaudin is warming in the Yankee bullpen.
1:56 p.m.: Kotchman's single scores Jose Lopez to tie the game, prompting a mound visit from pitching coach Dave Eiland. The Mariners entered play today with a .238 team batting average, last in the big leagues. They are 7-for-15 so far off of Vazquez. Yankees 4, Mariners 4
1:48 p.m.: Ichiro hits home run No. 2 of the afternoon off Vazquez. That was No. 5 of the season for Ichiro. Only the fifth multi-homer game of his career. He came into today hitting .296 (8-for-27) against Vazquez. Yankees 4, Mariners 3
1:38 p.m.: Teixeira saves a run with a backhanded stab on Josh Bard's grounder down the right-field line. Vazquez retires Michael Saunders on a strikeout. Josh Wilson flies out to right to end the threat. Yankees 4, Mariners 2
1:36 p.m.: Curtis Granderson and Nick Swisher slip and stumble trying to field Casey Kotchman's bloop into center, allowing Kotchman to stretch it into a double.
1:31 p.m.: Jorge Posada drills a two-run lined shot into the left-field stands. Yankees 4, Mariners 2
1:28 p.m.: Robinson Cano dumps a single in to left, driving in Jeter and Teixeira. Yankees 2, Mariners 2
1:25 p.m.: Mark Teixeira doubles down the left-field line to move Jeter to third.
1:22 p.m.: Derek Jeter, hitting in the leadoff spot, gets an infield single to start things off for the Yankees. Brett Gardner, who had hit leadoff earlier in the week, has the day off today.
1:13 p.m.: Nick Swisher barely moved on that Russell Branyan blast to the upper deck. That was Branyan's third home run of the series. Things don't look good for Vazquez just ten pitches into his start. Mariners 2, Yankees 0.
1:09 p.m.: Javy Vazquez gives up a home run to Ichiro Suzuki on an 84-mph fastball - his third pitch of the afternoon. Joe Girardi downplayed the issue before the game, but Vazquez has had trouble with his velocity of late.
