Yankees will call up Francisco Cervelli

Among the call-ups on Saturday, Sept. 1, will be Francisco Cervelli.

The popular catcher who was feature in this here blog for much of the season in the Daily Cervelli will return to the big club for the first time after it looked as if he would be the team's major league backup until the final days of spring. Instead, Austin Romine hurt his back, Chris Stewart arrived from San Francisco and Frankie was left riding the buses.

Cervelli hit .246 with two homers and 39 RBIs in 99 games at Triple-A.

A source confirmed Cervelli's return after CBS Sports' Jon Heyman tweeted it.

The Daily Cervelli is a recurring feature of the blog in which we chart the progress of the popular former Yankees backup catcher, Francisco Cervelli, as he attempts to play his way back to the big leagues as a member of the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees.

Against Rochester, Francisco Cervelli went 1-for-4 with a run scored. This pushed his average to the brink of .100. He is now 3-for-32 (.094). He caught Dellin Betances, allowing five earn runs in 4 2/3 innings. It was Betances' second loss of the season.
