Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler, 20, is now a free agent, according to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal. The Yankees are expected to be one of the teams in on Soler and, their interest could be heightened, because of the bidding will be before the new amateur signing cap is put into place. In other words, the Yankees can go all guns a blazing if they want.

Soler is supposedly going to be a major league starting outfielder one day, but we know this is all very subjective. He is 6-foo-3, 225 pound power hitter. Kevin Goldstein of ESPN and Baseball Prospectus, who is a scouting guru, said the Yankees have "mild" interest. So he is telling you there is a chance.

So tweets ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney.

The Yankees are "heavy in interest'' in 19-year-old Cuban defector Jorge Soler, who is in the process of obtaining his free agency and is considered a potential major-league power bat, although not as highly touted as The Showcase, Yoenis Cespedes, who signed this week with the Oakland A's.

It was previously assumed that Soler would sign with the Chicago Cubs -- but Olney says the two sides are not close and the Yankees are now not only kicking the tires, but considering a test drive. Stay tuned.
