- Even though Isiah Thomas nixed his consultant gig with the Knicks, it sounds like he's already doing some "consulting." According to a team source that spoke with the New York Daily News, Thomas has told James Dolan that Carmelo Anthony will be a Knick next year. It's safe to say that no matter what official role Thomas has with the team, he'll always be in the news for advising the boss.
- ESPN 1050 has reported that the Knicks have a trade offer in mind to get Anthony. But one side who's not talking is -- you guessed it -- the Nuggets.
- After actress Eva Longoria said her husband, Spurs point guard Tony Parker, wants to play for the Knicks, ESPN NBA Insider Ric Bucher provided an un-Hollywood-like analysis (no fluff, the real deal): "The problem is that if he is going to go now, [the Spurs] would have to trade him and New York does not have anything that San Antonio wants. So if Tony wants to go to New York in particular, then he's going to have to wait until he is a free agent."
- Blazers shooting guard Rudy Fernandez is feeling very moody about his future with the team. He will not report to training camp and has no intention of playing out the remaining two years of his contract. Which is all the merrier for the Knicks who, along with the Bulls, have high interest in courting him.
- This weekend, Spike Lee and John Starks will celebrate the return of Golden Hoops after a 15-year hiatus. The prestigious youth basketball tournament was created by the New York Daily News in the 80s and 90s. On Saturday, 40 boys and 20 girls, representing the nation's best in high school hoops, will compete in a one-day affair in Brooklyn. Other special guests include: Kenny Smith (host), Kenny Anderson (honorary coach of the NYC team), Brevin Knight (honorary coach of the Jersey team), John Wallace (honorary coach of the Empire team) and Evan Turner (honorary coach of the Philly team). With the Boost Mobile Elite 24 moving to Venice Beach this month (for four straight years, it was held at Rucker Park), NYC can still boast a rich playground event for high schoolers.
- One final note: Amar'e Stoudemire is planning to rest on the Sabbath.
