Bobby Parnell, who wanted to return to game action during the final week, will not be permitted to do so. Parnell had been allowed to throw on flat ground over the weekend in Philadelphia despite being shut down with inflammation of plica in his right elbow. Parnell hoped to see a team doctor this week and get cleared to step on a mound, but he was not even allowed to have the medical visit. The conclusion: The final word earlier this month that Parnell should be shut down for the remainder of the season to let the elbow calm down should stand.
"I just want to pitch," Parnell said.
