Jenrry Mejia's demotion is Bobby Parnell's gain.

Parnell is due to join the Mets for Tuesday's series opener against the Detroit Tigers, the Mets have confirmed.

The 25-year-old right-hander pitched a scoreless relief inning Sunday for Triple-A Buffalo. He is 1-1 with a 4.14 ERA and four saves in 41 1/3 innings spanning 24 appearances with the Bisons.

Parnell set a franchise rookie record last season by making 68 appearances with the Mets last season. He was 4-8 with a 5.30 ERA, although his ERA was skewed by a handful of bad starts among the eight he made in 2009.
Adam Rubin has covered the Mets since 2003. He's a graduate of Mepham High School on Long Island and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He joined ESPNNewYork after spending 10 years at the New York Daily News.
