Game 135: Mets @ Cubs

September, 4, 2010
9/04/10
10:54
AM ET
4:03 p.m.: Mets lose, 5-3.

3:35 p.m.: Carlos Beltran produces an RBI double in the eighth. Cubs 5, Mets 3.

3:20 p.m.: Aramis Ramirez answers with a solo homer off Elmer Dessens. Cubs 5, Mets 2.

3:10 p.m.: Ike Davis delivers a solo homer in he seventh. It's Davis' first long ball since July 29, off St. Louis' Blake Hawksworth.

2:50 p.m.: Pat Misch replaces Jenrry Mejia. Mejia's final line: 5 IP, 8 H, 4 R, 2 BB (one intentional), 2 K, 96 pitches (64 strikes)

2:39 p.m.: Mike Nickeas can't block a strike three in the dirt against Tyler Colvin that would have ended the fifth inning. Marlon Byrd scores from third on the wild pitch charged to Jenrry Mejia. Cubs 4, Mets 1.

2:29 p.m.: Marlon Byrd's double to right scores Starlin Castro from second base as the Cubs take a 3-1 lead. Castro had singled to open the inning and stolen second, on a play in which a presumably amped-up Mike Nickeas threw the ball into center field.

2:04 p.m.: Luis Castillo opens the fourth with a walk and moves to third on Carlos Beltran's broken-bat single against Carlos Zambrano. David Wright then flies out to right field, too shallow for Castillo to tag and score. The Mets manage to score, though. As Lucas Duda strikes out, the Cubs throw through to second base on a double-steal. Beltran manages to slide around Starlin Castro's tag at second, and Castillo can trot home with the Mets' first run. Cubs 2, Mets 1. The last Met to steal home was Moises Alou on May 6, 2008.

1:52 p.m.: Xavier Nady delivers a third-inning sacrifice fly. Cubs 2, Mets 0.

1:36 p.m.: Jenrry Mejia has surrendered a second-inning run on a two-out RBI double by Geovany Soto. Cubs lead, 1-0. ... Mejia leaves the bases loaded in the frame after facing three Cubs on base because of an intentional walk and an infield single achieved because of Luis Castillo struggling on a grounder. On to the third inning.

1:28 p.m.: Ruben Tejada makes a stellar play, backhanding a grounder from Aramis Ramirez deep on the outfield grass and making a strong throw to first base to comfortably retire the Cub for the first out of the bottom of the second inning. Jenrry Mejia then allows his first hit, on a single by ex-Met Xavier Nady up the middle.

1:22 p.m.: Mike Nickeas grounds into a double play in his first major league at-bat, against Carlos Zambrano, to end the top of the second inning.

1:17 p.m.: Jenrry Mejia works a 1-2-3 first inning. He becomes the youngest Mets starting pitcher since Dwight Gooden.

1:05 p.m.: Jenrry Mejia makes his first major league start and Mike Nickeas makes his major league debut. Lineups:

Drugs of abuse, as MLB refers to them, require two positive tests for the 50-game ban. Steroids and you're out 1st test.

Unless someone hacked the Mets' official twitter account, that's Sandy Alderson. They promoted this account from the team account.
