Terry Collins indicated that the Mets likely would add another left-handed reliever to compete with ex-Marlins southpaw Taylor Tankersley in spring training for that specialist role.

Left-handed free agents still on the market include Joe Beimel, Ron Mahay, Dennys Reyes , Mark Hendrickson and Tim Byrdak.

“We’re hoping to sign another one,” Collins said. “It certainly would make it a little bit better for us if we had another one coming into camp, and I know Sandy [Alderson] is working with a couple of people.”

Oliver Perez is expected in camp, but it's doubtful he actually makes the team, in that role or otherwise. And Pat Misch's best chance to make the team may be as a long reliever. Prospect Eric Niesen still needs more time to harness his control, while fellow farmhand Roy Merritt likely will be borrowed on occasion from minor league camp but will not be an actual invitee.

UPDATE: A source indicated there has not been much active dialogue with Beimel.
