In my story on Mark Teixeira in denial, a scout said Teixeira can't hit off-speed stuff -- so Mark Simon and Dan Braunstein at ESPN Stats and Information looked at Inside Edge video review data for Teixeira since 2008 (including postseason).

Teixeira has had issues with changeups all season. That's common for him in two-strike situations, but a new problem that has plagued him this year has been dealing with them early in his plate appearances. Here's a closer look at their findings:

• Teixeira is hitting .263 with a .684 OPS against changeups this season, prior to two strike counts. That's a far cry from his numbers in 2008 and 2009 (.409 BA, 1.165 OPS)

• Teixeira is missing changeups, prior to two-strike counts, 42 percent more frequently in 2010 than he was in 2008 and 2009. He's also also chasing changeups, prior to two strikes, 71 percent more frequently than he was in 2008 and 2009. That's an extraordinary difference.

• He's hitting .130, with a .428 OPS when his turn ends with a two-strike changeup. That batting average is 30 points below the average major league hitter, and the OPS is 29 points lower.

• He's taken 39 swings at two-strike changeups, fouling off 18 (46 percent). That means that if he swings at a two-strike changeup, he's about equally likely to put it in play as foul it off. In terms of that skill (fouling off two-strike changeups), he's in the top one-sixth of players in baseball. But he's putting fewer two-strike changeups into play relative to previous years.

• He's seen the most two-strike changeups in baseball (56).
