Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Stacy Andrews will be released this offseason unless he agrees to restructure his contract, according to Paul Domowitch of the Daily News. As Domowitch points out, Andrews made $5.5 million in salary and bonuses in '09 while starting only two games.
Coach Andy Reid blamed Andrews' lack of production on his slow recovery from knee surgery, but the reason really doesn't matter at this point. The Eagles paid a large sum of money to a man who was coming off ACL surgery. Surely they knew there would be some risk involved.
And there's also the fact that Nick Cole basically locked down the right guard spot for the Eagles in '09. Why would you want to pay Andrews a $4.1 million roster bonus in April when you have Cole waiting in the wings? Dumping Andrews sounds like the right decision to me.
