Late Friday night the New York Giants made it official that Antrel Rolle would be joining them via free agency. And judging by his $15 million in guaranteed money, he'll be expected to start for several years.
Earlier this afternoon, Rolle spoke to reporters via conference call about being paired with fellow Miami Hurricane Kenny Phillips. Coach Tom Coughlin said not to read too much into the Phillips injury situation.
“The idea that this is associated with the Kenny Phillips situation is incorrect,” said Coughlin. “We needed to answer some questions in terms of the safety position. This move puts us in a position now where we feel this can be a really strong part of our team. We needed to really solidify and help the safety position based on last year’s experience. That’s the reason this objective was so important to us.”
Rolle said he and Phillips would be "hands down" the best safety tandem in the league.
