Where was Bryant on the board?

While comparing Dez Bryant's tardiness issues to those of former President Bill Clinton's on Thursday evening, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones also mentioned that the former Oklahoma State wide receiver was ranked among the top 10 players on his board. He refused to say exactly where Bryant was in the top 10, so I did a little snooping around this morning and found out he was No. 8.

That might explain the awkward fist bump between Jones and Wade Phillips that was captured on film immediately following Bryant's selection. The Cowboys were thrilled to find that type of value at No. 24. If the Broncos had taken Bryant at No. 22, I have a feeling the Cowboys would have bailed out on the No. 27 pick. I had them taking either Rutgers cornerback Devin McCourty or Penn State defensive tackle Jared Odrick if they stayed at home.

With the No. 59 pick this evening, keep your eye on a defensive tackle. The Cowboys would like to find a player who could back up Jay Ratliff at nose tackle and also play defensive end. It will be interesting to see where Indiana offensive tackle Rodger Saffold ends up. ESPN's Sal Paolantonio says the Eagles like him, so take a peek at that No. 37 pick this evening. I also know the Cowboys like Saffold quite a bit, but it would be surprising to see him slide to No. 59.

It's highly unlikely the Cowboys will move up in the second round, in part, because they don't have a lot of ammo and they feel good about their fourth-round picks. You'll recall they received the 119th overall pick from the Patriots in the Bryant trade.

Doesn't seem like Patriots coach Bill Belichick made the Cowboys pay a lot to move up three spots. I guess he was making sure Baltimore didn't land Bryant at No. 25. Fortunately for the Ravens, they ended up brokering the biggest shocker of the first round: Tim Tebow to the Broncos. You guys having fun yet?

You have any questions heading into the second round?
