Paul Domowitch of the Philadelphia Daily News thinks it's a virtual lock the Eagles will select a running back with one of their two first-round picks. I'm not so sure. Philly also needs help at offensive tackle and receiver -- despite what you're hearing from management.
I haven't seen Andy Reid and his crew milling around yet this morning. Reid could be taking advantage of a variety of spa treatments at the St. Regis. Domowitch wonders why the NFL would book a $600-per-night hotel at a time when employees across the league are being laid off or taking furloughs. For the record, the NFL's discounted rate is $390 per night -- or roughly four nights at a Marriott Courtyard.
"Have I mentioned before how despicable I think it is that the NFL, which has eliminated more than 300 jobs league-wide through layoffs and buyouts and has forced other employees to take unpaid furloughs, is holding these meetings at the $600-a-night St. Regis Resort?," asks Domowitch. "I have? Well, the NFL owners are in good company. A few weeks ago, AIG executives slept in the same beds they are sleeping in this week during one of their junkets."
I must say that the views of the St. Regis from my Howard Johnson are breathtaking. OK, I'm off to knock on Tom Coughlin's door. The guy's really getting a late start today.
