DANA POINT, Calif. -- Just bumped into 49ers head coach Mike Singletary in one of the six or seven rotundas at the St. Regis Hotel. Singletary was in a hurry, but he stopped for a few minutes to discuss the draft and Baylor's chances against Auburn in the N.I.T. on Tuesday night.
The fiery coach admitted to being infatuated with Baylor left tackle Jason Smith. He watched him on TV twice during the season and asked to see a lot of film on the player.
"We'd love to have him," Singletary said, "but he won't be there at No. 10."
As we speak, Roger Goodell is delivering the Commissioner's Annual Report to the Clubs. He's also expected to hand out several complimentary breakfast coupons to those in attendance. Fortunately for us, danishes and fruit are being delivered to the media tent on the south lawn.
Back with more in a moment.
