DETROIT -- I've bumped into Plaxico Burress twice since Saturday, and I'm told he'll be at tonight's NCAA tournament title game between his Michigan State Spartans and North Carolina. Unfortunately for Burress, another story made the rounds over the weekend.
Citing a police report, the New York Post reported that Burress was pulled over in South Florida for driving like "he was going to kill somebody." Burress, who was released by the New York Giants on Friday, was described by police as "violent and aggressive" during the traffic stop.
If the wide receiver is desperate to play again, he sure has a funny way of showing it. One or two traffic tickets doesn't sound like a big deal, but Burress has left quite a trail over the last few years.
A Giants official told me recently that the club encouraged Burress to hire someone to look after his off-the-field issues, but he refused. The only people he trusted were people he'd grown up with, which is something that sounds vaguely familiar.
