Giants backup quarterback Jim Sorgi has a torn capsule in his right throwing shoulder and will miss 2-3 weeks, his agent told ESPNNewYork.com's Ohm Youngmisuk. That's bad news for a team that had already ruled out starter Eli Manning for Saturday's preseason game because of a three-inch gash in his head.
It looks like former Sam Houston State star Rhett Bomar will have to play the entire game against the Steelers. The Giants signed former Holy Cross star Dominic Randolph to play quarterback, but it's hard to imagine him doing much more than handing the ball off in the fourth quarter. This is a huge opportunity for Bomar to prove that he can be Manning's backup.
When I was in camp earlier this month, he had one excellent practice during which he delivered the ball into several tight spots. Bomar definitely has the arm strength and the mobility to play at this level, but he has to be more consistent. Tom Coughlin is watching closely to see how he handles all the additional repetitions this week. So far, he's holding up well.
By the way, my Victor Cruz interview is scheduled to go live at 2:30 p.m. ET.
