Perhaps NFL commissioner Roger Goodell called Jerry Jones this week and reminded him that training camps historically have ended before the start of the regular-season. Otherwise, Jones and the Dallas Cowboys may have extended their stay in Oxnard, Calif., for another month or so.

The good folks at ESPNDallas.com have published the Cowboys' (inflated) training camp attendance numbers. They would have broken the 300,000 barrier if coach Wade Phillips hadn't held four practices without helmets this week. Even the most ardent Southern California-based Cowboys fans grew tired of seeing Igor Olshansky in a beret each afternoon.

The Cowboys will play the Texans on Saturday and then return home for good -- unless the league grants Jones a rare camp extension.
