In his weekly Scout's Eye column, former Dallas Cowboys scout Bryan Broaddus, now with ESPNDallas.com, talks about how poorly the club's offensive line has played. Coach Wade Phillips delivered his "nothing to see here, folks" speech Monday after being livid (by his standards) immediately following the Cowboys' loss to the Texans.

Phillips believes the Cowboys can pick up in the running game where they left off in '09, but they haven't done much damage in this preseason. Broaddus takes a closer look at what's going on with this offensive line right now:

"In the Houston game, there were too many plays in the running game where there was poor execution," said the ex-scout. "We saw Jason Witten getting beat inside and Martellus Bennett catching blocks and playing way too soft. We saw Alex Barron getting driven into the backfield and making Leonard Davis have to run the hump to get to the outside. We saw Montrae Holland not being quick enough to get outside to block on the support."

What Broaddus is basically saying is that the interior players on the Cowboys' offensive line aren't moving their feet and getting any appreciable push. I thought Barron held up well in pass protection, but he struggles at the point of attack in the running game.

Broaddus thinks the Cowboys already miss reserve tight end John Phillips, who was on his way to being an excellent blocker before tearing up his knee early in the preseason. To me, it looked like the Cowboys didn't want to be on the field this past Saturday.

Phillips indicated that his team was mentally and physically fatigued following camp. Owner Jerry Jones wasn't buying that explanation. He watched his team practice in ballcaps in 70-degree weather most of last week and doesn't understand where all this fatigue's coming from.

I'll stop by Valley Ranch later this morning and look for some more answers.
