So this week's 'Hot Button' debate topic is "Which would you rather sign -- Tiki Barber or Plaxico Burress?" To the surprise of no one who reads this blog with any regularity, I was pleased to take the Burress side of the debate.
And frankly, we've had hotter buttons. As of this writing, the SportsNation poll shows 88 percent of the more than 2,200 who have responded agree with me and would rather have a huge wide receiver who just spent the past two years in jail than a little running back who's spent the past four years failing at post-football life.
I'd like to make it clear that, in my own personal opinion, the vast majority of NFL teams should answer "none of the above" to this question. The overwhelming likelihood is that neither of these guys has a thing to offer. I've said a few times that teams like the Rams and Browns, who need a No. 1 receiver, shouldn't look to Burress to be that. I like him for a small, specific role, surrounded by good offensive talent and caring coaching. It's why I think Philadelphia is his best spot, though it remains to be seen whether the Eagles want to take a chance.
But you guys fire away (pun intended) and let me know. I've read Pat Yasinskas' opinion on the Hot Button page, and my mind is open if anybody out there can convince me there's a reason in the world an NFL team would want Tiki Barber within 50 miles of its training camp. So far, no one has.
