As part of their ongoing effort to free up enough money to sign running back Ahmad Bradshaw and their other free agents, the Giants have reportedly agreed with running back Brandon Jacobs on a restructuring of Jacobs' contract. The New York Daily News had the story first, and reports that Jacobs agreed to lower his 2011 salary in exchange for incentives that could allow him to earn most of it back. The other option, apparently, was that he would be cut.
What's this mean for Bradshaw? Well, Ralph Vacchiano, further down in that same story, says the Giants and Bradshaw remain far apart on a new deal, though the Giants have been working "aggressively" to sign him. You'd have thought that Bradshaw's leverage dried up Thursday when the Miami Dolphins got Reggie Bush and lost interest in Bradshaw. But evidently, there's still work to be done there, as well as with free agents Kevin Boss and Steve Smith.
