Man, that Osi Umenyiora drives a hard bargain, huh?
After holding out of training camp for one whole day and missing a grand total of zero practices, Umenyiora will, like Party Rock, be in the house tonight when the Giants hold their first training camp practice. Ohm's got a source tells him so:
Umenyiora wants a new contract or a trade to a team that will give him a new deal. He has two years remaining at a total of $8 million. Umenyiora was placed on the reserve/did not report list by the Giants on Friday. Co-owner John Mara wants to see Umenyiora sit down with general manager Jerry Reese and hash out their differences.
However, a source said Umenyiora will not speak to the general manager Saturday.
You'll remember, of course, that Umenyiora called Reese a liar in a sworn affidavit that was part of the now-settled but fondly remembered Brady vs. NFL antitrust lawsuit. Said Reese promised him that new deal or trade and now won't give it to him, and that's almost certainly why he didn't show Friday for his scheduled physical and a team meeting.
Ohm tells me Osi has promised to talk when he gets there this evening, so we'll have much more on this. I'm fascinated to see if he says his quotes were taken out of context, as many do in this scenario, because in this case the context is a sworn affidavit.
