GM Reese happy with Giants' progress

I bumped into Giants GM Jerry Reese while the two of us were positioning ourselves in the halftime cookie line. Reese went with two macadamia nuts.

He seemed relieved after getting the Plaxico Burress deal done, but he was more interested in talking about the first half. Reese was ecstatic about the play of his defensive ends. He realizes that most people wrote the Giants off after Osi Umenyiora's season-ending knee injury, but he never panicked.

"I just didn't like the way the half ended," he said while grabbing a couple blocks of cheese. "But we're looking OK. You have to score touchdowns when you get close, though."

Reese watches the game from a luxury box, but you get the feeling he'd rather be with the scouts in the main press box.
