WR Smith active, Watkins out for Eagles

ST. LOUIS -- Good morning everyone. Coming to you today from the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, where I'll be watching, blogging and reporting on the Philadelphia Eagles' season opener against the St. Louis Rams. The inactive list for the game has just come out, and the Eagles' first three picks from April's draft are on it. First-round pick Danny Watkins, who lost his starting right guard spot last week to Kyle DeVan, is inactive, as are second-round pick Jaiquawn Jarrett and third-rounder Curtis Marsh. Any or all could still factor in prominently as the year goes on, but to this point, those Eagles rookies are not ready.

But wide receiver Steve Smith, signed away from the New York Giants in one of the offseason's most surprising moves, is active. It's unclear how much Smith will play, as he's coming off of knee surgery and is the No. 4 receiver behind DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Jason Avant, all of whom are also active. But he feels good enough that they're willing to run him out there right away, which has to have Giants fans steaming.
